Letters and documents : of Robert Fulton, 1807-1829.

This collection, bound together like a scrapbook in one volume, contains twelve original letters and documents of and relating to Fulton including his original autograph agreement with James McGowan, midshipman in the U.S. Navy, for the use of Fulton's invention, the submarine torpedo; stock certificates from the Ohio Steam Boat Navigation Company, the Mississippi Steam Boat Navigation Company, and the Hudson River Steam Boat Company; his plan for delivering Ohio coal to New York by his steamboats; and a photograph of his birthplace near Lancaster, Pa. Also, includes an 1807 letter from Fulton to Secretary of the Navy Robert Smith concerning a demonstration of submarine bombs; an 1825 letter from Charles Snowdon to Robert Troup of the New York Coal Company suggesting a consolidation of their companies; an 1829 letter from Robert Troup to Peter Jay Monroe requesting his presence at a board meeting; an 1826 authorization by the company to purchase the Pennsylvania coal fields and issue stock; 1825 appointment papers of Charles Snowdon and others as directors of the company to replace Robert Fulton and other deceased directors; an 1817 stock dividend declaration from the company; and an 1814 letter from directors in Fulton's steamboat companies concerning raising funds for the companies.
